New Delhi: A five-year-old boy died and a 10-year-old girl was injured after a portion of the roof of a jhuggi collapsed in northwest Delhi’s Wazirpur area on Saturday afternoon. The deceased was identified as Divyanshu. The injured girl, Rinki, is undergoing treatment. Police said the children were neighbors and their parents work as daily-wage labourers.A PCR call about the incident was received at Bharat Nagar police station around noon from JJ Colony, Wazirpur. A police team rushed to the spot and found the children trapped under debris. They were pulled out and taken to a hospital, where Divyanshu was declared dead on arrival. The crime team and officials from the forensic science laboratory inspected the site and collected samples to ascertain the cause of the collapse.Preliminary inquiry revealed that children were playing near a house when a section of the roof gave way suddenly. The structure, a ground-plus-one jhuggi, had weakened over time. Police suspect water overflow from a bucket kept on the upper floor may have added pressure to the roof, triggering the collapse.A case has been registered at Bharat Nagar police station against the jhuggi owner.
