Tejashwi slams NDA over Bihar's 'backwardness'
In a heated exchange, Tejashwi Yadav and Rohini Acharya have taken the ruling NDA in Bihar to task over the state’s stagnation and troubling rise in violence against women. Yadav has issued a bold challenge for a public debate, accusing the government of obscuring its shortcomings.

Patna: Ahead of CM Nitish Kumar shifting to Delhi as a Rajya Sabha member, leader of opposition in the Bihar legislative assembly, Tejashwi Prasad Yadav, and his estranged sister Rohini Acharya on Sunday launched sharp attacks on the ruling NDA govt, alleging Bihar lags behind other states on most development indicators while crimes against women have become a matter of serious concern. Yadav, who is also the RJD national working president, further challenged Kumar and his two deputies to a public debate on the state’s backwardness, “provided they have the moral courage and competence”.Taking to social media, Yadav alleged Bihar remains backward on all development indicators, but the ruling NDA has been trying to “brush aside its 21 years of failure” by shifting the blame on the opposition.“Why even after 21 years of NDA rule, Bihar remains far below the national average in all development indicators? Until you identify the problem and solve it, you’ll have to keep hiding your failures by repeatedly misusing the Election Commission and administrative machinery,” Yadav wrote on X on Sunday. He said the present govt feels insulted when Bihar is described as the most backward and poorest state because it exposes their white lies and monumental failures, revealing their true face and causing discomfort to NDA leaders. “The situation has persisted for over two decades, but the NDA people keep on shamelessly blaming the opposition for every fault,” he added.Taking a dig at Yadav’s remarks, JD(U) MLC Neeraj Kumar said people of Bihar “discarded him” in the recent Bihar assembly elections, adding, “Nobody pays heed to his statements anymore.” “We ask him to decide a place and time of his debate,” Kumar said.Ridiculating the “rule of law” claim of the NDA regime, Acharya said not a single day passes without rape incidents and other crimes against women. “The unprecedented surge in rape cases has tarnished Bihar’s image across the world, yet the false drumbeat of the rule of law prevails,” she alleged. She added in the current govt, not only is justice a distant dream for rape victims, but their families are instead harassed in the name of investigations and inquiries.
