Roads, security, upgrade at Pilerne industrial estate

Panaji: Goa Industrial Development Corporation (GIDC) has undertaken a comprehensive upgrade of the Pilerne Industrial Estate, targeting road quality, traffic management, security and worker welfare as part of its push to strengthen industrial infrastructure and ease of doing business. At the heart of the upgrade is the resurfacing of all internal roads through ‘white topping’, a more durable alternative to conventional road surfaces, aimed at improving connectivity and cutting maintenance costs. A dedicated truck terminal parking facility has also been developed to ease congestion and allow smoother movement of heavy vehicles within the estate, said GIDC chairman Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco.Traffic management has been overhauled with the installation of signage, road markings, cat-eye studs and concrete speed breakers at key junctions, bringing the estate in line with industrial infrastructure standards.Lourenco said that a comprehensive CCTV surveillance system is being rolled out across all strategic and high-traffic locations within the estate. Ongoing works include widening of internal roads and raising drainage system heights between plot numbers 79 and 80-B. The drains are being improved to prevent waterlogging and ensure uninterrupted operations during the monsoon season. The GIDC chairman said the upgrades reflect GIDC’s focus on “building modern, efficient and future-ready industrial ecosystems”. The GIDC has also beautified and painted the roadside shoulders and curb stones with synthetic enamel paint. On the worker welfare front, the canteen building has been renovated and interlocking pavers laid in front of it. The Goa-IDC wants to position Pilerne as a model for future industrial estate development across the state.
