Varanasi: In a joint action of Machhlishehar and Pavara police in Jaunpur district, two looters were arrested following an encounter early morning on Sunday.The accused duo had looted Rs 5 lakh cash from the dickey of a motorcycle of one Suryamani Mishra, when he was returning home after withdrawing cash from a bank on April 7.Jaunpur CO (Machhlishehar) Pratima Verma on Sunday said that acting on a tip-off regarding movement of criminals, a team from both the police stations cordoned off Kunwarpur area and carried out a checking drive around midnight on Saturday. During the drive, they tried to stop two motorcycle-borne persons. However, they tried to take a U-turn after opening fire at police team.When the cops retaliated, accused Satyendra Kumar Dobre of Etawah district suffered bullet injury and was caught with his accomplice Guddu alias Ikrar of Auraiya. Apart from firearms, cartridges and a motorcycle, police seized Rs 4.20 lakh cash from them. The injured was later rushed to hospital.During interrogation, they confessed that they had looted the cash from the bike’s dickey, when Suryamani stopped midway to have tea while on his way home.
