Ban on 'Patriot' revoked: Mohanlal and Mammootty starrer back on track after revenue dispute resolution
The much-awaited film ‘Patriot’, starring Mohanlal and Mammootty, will now release on May 1 as a revenue-sharing dispute with exhibitors has been resolved. The Film Exhibitors United Organization of Kerala confirmed that the standard revenue-sharing structure, with a slight concession beyond the third week, has been reinstated, paving the way for the theatrical debut.

The hold placed on the much-anticipated film ‘Patriot’, starring Mohanlal and Mammootty, has now been revoked. The decision comes after discussions between exhibitors and producer Anto Joseph. The film, directed by Mahesh Narayanan, is gearing up for its theatrical release on May 1.The Film Exhibitors United Organization of Kerala (FEUOK) had earlier stalled the release of ‘Patriot’ following disagreements over revenue sharing. Producers and distributors had pushed for a 60:40 split in their favor for the first two weeks, a demand that exhibitors strongly opposed. This led to the temporary ban, raising concerns around the film’s release timeline.According to Onmanorama, FEUOK president K Vijayakumar confirmed that the issue has now been resolved. “Initially, the producer insisted on a 60:40 share for two consecutive weeks, which is unheard of in the industry. They have now agreed to follow the existing terms and conditions,” he said, indicating that both sides have found common ground.

Revenue sharing structure restored for ‘Patriot’

As per the standard agreement, producers and distributors will receive 60% of the box office revenue in the first week, with exhibitors getting 40%. In the second week, the ratio shifts to 55:45, followed by an equal 50:50 split in the third week. This structure has now been reinstated for ‘Patriot’.Vijayakumar also revealed that a slight relaxation has been made beyond the third week. “We have allowed a 50:50 share beyond the third week. Typically, the producer’s share declines depending on theater collections, but we have made an exception in this case,” he explained, highlighting a rare concession offered to the makers.
