Bhubaneswar: Kharavel Nagar police in Bhubaneswar arrested four men on Sunday for allegedly abducting a businessman and demanding Rs 15 lakh in ransom for his release on Saturday.Investigators said the kidnapping stemmed from a financial dispute between the victim and the alleged mastermind, who remains at large.Sources said the victim, Asish Minj (30), was walking with his friend, Amarjit Dungdung (31) towards the railway station around 7.30 am on Saturday, when a car stopped near Master Canteen Chowk. Some unknown men dragged Minj into the vehicle and sped away. Dungdung later told police that he received a ransom call demanding Rs 15 lakh for Minj’s release, following which he lodged a complaint.Police tracked the phone number and examined CCTV footage, eventually tracing the vehicle to Jatni on the city’s outskirts. “We arrested four kidnappers — Asish Kumar Nayak (21), Chinmay Kumar Behera (28), Pranab Kumar Behera (23) and Dipak Kumar Sahoo (22) — all residents of Bhubaneswar and rescued Minj. We are searching for the mastermind, who is absconding,” a senior police officer said.Police revealed that the abduction mastermind had lent Minj about Rs 12 lakh a year ago for investment on a trading platform. When he sought repayment, Minj allegedly delayed and avoided his calls.“The man, who had lost money, did not file any formal complaint anywhere against Minj. Instead, he resorted to abduction to recover his money. We will arrest him soon,” the officer added.
