Patna: : With conceptual designs and fabrication drawings in the final stage, installation of the remaining 47 exhibits in the ‘Basic Science’ gallery at Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Science City is set to begin soon. Officials said 35 exhibits are already in place, while work across other galleries is progressing at a fast pace as the project moves toward the completion.The ‘Be a Scientist’ gallery has already seen the complete installation of its 12 exhibits. Both galleries have been inaugurated and opened to the public, with nearly one lakh visitors having explored the Science City since their opening.Civil works for the remaining three galleries have been fully completed. All five galleries together cover an area of about 7,725 square meters and will house a total of 269 interactive science exhibits based on 26 themes.Building construction department secretary Kumar Ravi, said designing of 175 exhibits is currently underway for the three remaining galleries — ‘Sustainable planet’, ‘Space and astronomy’, and ‘Body and mind’ — through the National Council of Science Museums (NCSM) and Creative Museum Designers (CMD). These include 52 exhibits in the sustainable planet gallery, 58 in the Space and Astronomy gallery, and 65 in the Body and Mind gallery. The total cost of the exhibit installation work is Rs 213 crore.Engineers said that fabrication will begin once drawings are completed and approved by the competent authority. “The exhibits will be engaging and highly interactive,” an official said.Ravi said efforts are being made to carry out the remaining installations in the Basic Science gallery simultaneously with the full setup of the other three galleries. “The entire process is moving at a fast pace to make the Science City fully operational at the earliest. The project deadline is March-end 2027, and all interactive exhibits are expected to be completed as per schedule,” he said.He added that strict monitoring and regular site inspections are being carried out to ensure quality and adherence to timelines. Construction of the sewage treatment plant (STP) and water treatment plant (WTP) on the campus is also progressing rapidly.Discussions have also been held on opening an additional gate of the Science City on the Saidpur side, where a road is being constructed by covering the drain with drain boxes to provide direct connectivity with JP Ganga Path. Necessary instructions have been issued to the executive engineer, Ravi said.Once completed, the sustainable planet gallery will focus on themes such as climate change, population growth, pollution, agriculture, green urbanisation, evolving cities, energy conservation and sustainable solutions. The space and astronomy gallery will take visitors on a journey from ancient explorations of the universe to the latest advancements in space science and technology, while the body and mind gallery will offer interactive insights into the functioning of the human body.
