Panaji: Chief minister Pramod Sawant on Tuesday said the fire services will soon be integrated with the 112 Emergency Response Support Systems (ESSS) to coordinate services better.“Govt is committed to strengthening fire and emergency services across Goa. New fire stations are being set up in Sanguem and Dharbandora to ensure faster response in remote areas,” Sawant said while addressing the gathering at celebrations held to mark National Fire Service Day at the headquarters of the directorate of fire and emergency services in Panaji.The chief minister said strengthening infrastructure, and coordination and capacity-building remain a priority for govt. He said zonal fire control rooms will be established in all three districts for better coordination and efficiency. The existing training facility will be upgraded to a state fire training academy to strengthen capacity-building.While initiatives such as ‘Apada Mitra’ and ‘Apada Sakhi’ have enhanced community participation in disaster response, Sawant said that awareness activities such as drawing and essay competitions among students promote fire safety among them.Firefighting personnel were felicitated with commendation certificates for exemplary service, and director of fire and emergency services, Nitin Raikar, was presented with his PhD during Tuesday’s celebration. An exhibition of advanced firefighting equipment and modern rescue tools were also inaugurated.The program was attended by chief secretary V Candavelou, senior officers, fire service personnel, and other dignitaries.
