CG bouncer shoots sisters-in-law dead over dispute with wife

Raipur: : A late-night domestic dispute escalated into a double murder in Raipur after a bouncer walked into his in-laws’ house in Mowa market and allegedly shot dead his two sisters-in-law after a fight with his wife. After the killings, he stepped out onto the road and allegedly fired in the air before turning himself in at the police station. The two victims were identified as Geetanjali (26), who died on the spot, and Durgeshwari (24), who was shot in the back and succumbed during treatment on Wednesday morning.Raipur DCP Mayank Gurjar said the accused bouncer, identified as Jitendra Verma, walked into his in-laws’ house carrying a licensed pistol and opened fire following an argument.According to police and local eyewitness accounts, the killings were a fallout of an ongoing marital discord. On Tuesday, after an argument, the accused’s wife left for her parental home with their child. Unable to get in touch with her on the phone, Jitendra went to the house in an inebriated state, insisting on meeting the child, police said.As Geetanjali and Durgeshwari stepped out, trying to reason with him and asking him to return later, the matter escalated. Enraged, Jitendra allegedly pulled out his pistol and opened fire. A bullet struck Geetanjali on the forehead, while another hit Durgeshwari in the back, leaving her critically injured. The gunshots alarmed the entire neighbourhood. Residents reported hearing multiple rounds being fired and alerted the police.A police team reached the scene to find the two women lying in a pool of blood inside the house. Used cartridges were recovered from the scene, indicating multiple shots had been fired.Police took the accused into custody and seized the licensed firearm used to commit the crime.During initial questioning, Jitendra confessed to the shooting, attributing the attack to a family dispute. However, investigators said the exact sequence of events and the extent of the altercation were still being verified. The DCP said that a case was registered, adding, “The accused has been arrested and the weapon seized. We are examining all aspects of the case, including the circumstances that led to the firing.”The sleuths said they would question the family members and neighbors to piece together the full sequence of events and establish the motive before filing charges.
