Lucknow: Additional chief secretary for basic and secondary education, Partha Sarthi Sen Sharma on Tuesday said that artificial intelligence (AI) has the potential to strengthen the delivery of foundational learning when integrated thoughtfully into the education system.Addressing teachers and policy makers at a one-day summit on ‘AI for education impact’, Sharma stressed upon developing a comprehensive and long-term strategy for AI. “In a rapidly changing world, AI has become a new identity, and it is essential to connect children in basic education with this transformation,” Sharma said.Organized by education department in collaboration with Sampark Foundation, the summit focused on how AI should be used not to replace teachers but to empower them. The event saw two panel discussions highlighting the role of AI in real-time decision-making in the education system and its relevance for Indian students.Director general of school education (DGSE) Monika Rani highlighted that the summit is aimed at familiarizing teachers with AI-based innovations and training them so that students, especially those studying in remote govt schools can be connected with modern technology. She emphasized that the time has come to move beyond rote learning and adopt experiential and innovation-driven teaching methods.During the event, it was discussed that despite large-scale enrollment and expansion of infrastructure in the state, many students are still unable to achieve basic literacy and numeracy skills. In such a scenario, AI-based solutions can make the teaching process more effective and outcome-oriented.Experts said that if technology is developed in accordance with local needs, it can significantly enhance classroom participation and improve the quality of teaching.Founder chairman of Sampark Foundation, Vineet Nayar said the transformation in government schools is the need of the hour. “Teachers are like soldiers who protect the nation through education. We must bring AI into the education sector and train teachers accordingly so that we can prepare our students for future-ready jobs.”
