Bihar Sharif: A 17-year-old girl from Sheikhpura district was allegedly raped by a man in Patna, police said on Saturday. The accused, aged 35, was arrested on Friday evening and remanded to Sheikhpura district jail following the registration of an FIR under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act.According to the police, the victim, a Class 12 student, was allegedly lured to Patna on April 13 on the pretext of visiting Patna Zoo and taking a Patna Metro ride. She was allegedly sexually assaulted at an undisclosed location during the nights of April 13 and 14. The accused later abandoned her and fled.The distressed girl contacted her parents, who immediately traveled to Patna, traced her and brought her back home. The victim told police she was unfamiliar with the exact location where the assault took place.Women police station in-charge Rishu Kumari said, “The victim has undergone medical examination and the forensic report is awaited. Police are investigating all aspects of the case. Police records show the accused, a Nalanda native, was earlier jailed in a liquor smuggling case.”She further said that the arrested man, originally from a village under Giriyak police station area in Nalanda district, used to live in a rented house close to the victim’s residence.
