Dual PAN fraud case: Rampur court upholds 7-yr jail to Azam Khan, son

Meerut: A sessions court in Rampur on Monday upheld the seven-year jail term awarded to Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan and his son Abdullah Azam Khan in two cases related to “PAN card fraud”. The court of Justice Vijay Kumar dismissed the appeal filed by the father-son duo challenging their earlier conviction by the special MP/MLA court, which sentenced them to seven years’ imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 50,000 each on Nov 17, 2025.According to assistant district govt counsel (ADGC) Seema Singh Rana, the sessions court delivered its verdict after hearing arguments from both sides, thereby affirming the earlier punishment. However, the court will continue to hear another plea seeking enhancement of the sentence. The case dates back to July 30, 2019, when BJP MLA Akash Saxena lodged a complaint at the Kotwali Civil Lines police station. It was alleged that Abdullah Azam procured two PAN cards using forged documents, reflecting different dates of birth. One showed his date of birth as Jan 1, 1993, while the other mentioned Sept 30, 1990.During the investigation, Khan’s role surfaced, allegedly to benefit his son for electoral gains, leading to his inclusion as an accused in the case. Both were later charged and convicted by the trial court.Notably, since their conviction in 2025, the father-son duo have been lodged in district jail in Rampur.
