Gorkha solution, safe border, jobs: Amit Shah's 3-point pitch in West Bengal

Will prioritize resolving Gorkha issue, withdraw cases against leaders after winning Bengal: Amit Shah

KOLKATA/SUKNA/SALBONI/KULTI: Union home minister Amit Shah on Tuesday promised a “solution” to the longstanding concerns of the Gorkha community within six months if the BJP assumed office in West Bengal, while also vowing to revive the stalled Jindal Group steel project in Salboni “at the earliest”.Speaking in Kulti, he said, “EC has deployed CAPF in sufficient numbers. I warned Mamata Banerjee’s goons that if they try to disturb the poll process, I will ensure they are hung upside down on May 4… and straighten them out once and for all.”At Sukna near Siliguri, Shah reiterated the BJP’s outreach to the hills. He alleged that the names of several Gorkhas were deleted from the electoral rolls. “We will add their names to the voter list the day BJP assumes office,” he said.At Salboni, Shah brought up the Jindal Steel and Power plant. Land was acquired during the tenure of Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee as CM, but the project faltered amid security and raw material issues. “Only Modi-ji can complete the project,” Shah said.He pledged to restore Kulti’s status as a premier iron ore production hub. At Chandipur, he promised 1 lakh jobs every year under a BJP government.Shah sharpened his pitch on border security. Calling the polls a fight to “free Bengal from infiltrators and Rohingyas”, he said the BJP would seal borders with Bangladesh within 45 days of forming the government. He reiterated the BJP’s commitment to implementing a uniform civil code in Bengal.
