COIMBATORE: Tirupur district registered 88.59% voter turnout on Thursday while the Nilgiris district recorded 78.90% polling.Tirupur district has eight assembly constituencies: Tirupur South, Tirupur North, Palladam, Madathukulam, Udumalpet, Dharapuram, Kangeyam and Avinashi. Tirupur South and Tirupur North cover Tirupur city municipal corporation areas. Tirupur South with a higher minority population had 2,76,483 voters in 2021. As many as 1,74,418 votes were polled in that year, translating to 63.08%. After the special intensive revision (SIR), the electorate came down to 1,97,091. As many as 1,77,778 votes were polled this time, taking turnout to 90.71%. The constituency recorded around 4,360 more votes than in the previous election.In Avinashi, a reserved constituency for Scheduled Castes, Union minister of state and BJP leader L Murugan contested against DMK candidate Dr Gokilamani. In 2021, the constituency had 2,80,560 voters and 2,12,627 votes were polled, a turnout of 75.79%. After the SIR, the number of voters declined to 2,53,361, while 2,29,469 votes were polled on Thursday, pushing turnout to 90.57%. The constituency recorded an increase of around 16,842 votes.Palladam, which largely comprises semi-urban and rural areas, had 3,75,838 voters in 2021 and recorded 2,61,511 votes, or 67.09%. After the SIR, the electorate dropped to 3,29,749, while 2,99,174 votes were polled in 2026, resulting in a turnout of 90.73%. The constituency recorded an increase of 37,663 votes. Tirupur North, Dharapuram, Udumalpet, Madathukulam and Kangeyam also recorded an increase in votes polled.The Nilgiris district has three assembly constituencies: Udhagamandalam, Coonoor and Gudalur. While Udhagamandalam and Coonoor recorded only a marginal rise, Gudalur saw an increase of more than 11,000 votes.
