'Lawrence of Punjab' docuseries faces ban call; Lawrence Bishnoi's cousin Ramesh Bishnoi strongly objects

Ramesh Bishnoi, cousin of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, has opposed the upcoming docuseries ‘Lawrence of Punjab’. He has demanded a ban on the show ahead of its release. The Punjab Police has also approached authorities to block the series citing serious concerns. The documentary is scheduled to premiere on on April 27.

Ramesh Bishnoi strong objection

Ramesh Bishnoi criticized the series in a conversation with ANI. He questioned the permission taken for making the show. The family was not consulted before production began. He expressed worry over the timing as cases remain under trial in court.Ramesh Bishnoi made his position very clear. “Punjab is the land of Gurus. With whose permission has the director created this series? No permission from family or government. What does he aim to prove through it? The cases are still under trial in court. We object to the series, and it should be banned,” said Ramesh Bishnoi in a talk with the media.Reportedly, the Punjab Police formally approached the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. Special Director General of Police (Cyber ​​Crime) V Neeraja issued an official letter. The department requested blocking public access to the series. Officials warned that the content could interfere with ongoing investigations and affect law and order in the state.

Concerns over ‘Lawrence of Punjab’s content

The police letter highlighted risks of glorifying organized crime. The series includes dramatized depictions of major incidents including the killing of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moose Wala.Reports say that the authorities noted that digital content reaches wider and impressionable audiences easily. They filed the request under Section 69A(1) of the Information Technology Act 2000 and urged ZEE5 to remove the trailer worldwide.
