A British traveler who recently criticized India’s famed Golden Triangle circuit has gone viral after dramatically changing his opinion of the country, admitting that he may have judged India too quickly. In an earlier Instagram post, the traveler shared his honest reaction after completing the Golden Triangle route — the well-known circuit connecting Delhi, Agra and Jaipur. He said he did not enjoy the experience, describing parts of the journey as overcrowded, polluted and far removed from the kind of destinations he usually prefers. He also acknowledged that he is not naturally drawn to big cities and had chosen the route precisely to push himself outside his comfort zone. In his post, he had shared, “India’s Golden Triangle – My honest thoughts after doing it: It is terrible, I’m not gonna lie to you. I did not enjoy myself one bit. The cities, they are dirty, they are polluted. There are clean areas, but if you really want to step out of your comfort zone and go experience real life, that’s where you’re gonna meet a lot of rubbish, a lot of pollution.”

Busy Delhi locality
Even though he was disappointed, he said he was happy to have done something different, stating that traveling means embracing the new and unfamiliar even if it does not always coincide with your preferences. But it is actually his post after visiting Kerala that made waves on the internet. In contrast to his earlier post, in this one, the traveler apologized to the Indian people for having judged India based only on his visit to the Golden Triangle and north India. He mentioned that after visiting southern India, his perception had been totally transformed. “I owe the people of India an apology. I made up my opinion of your country after experiencing the Golden Triangle, and places up north. Let me be honest with you, that opinion was not very positive. I’ve found it too busy, I’ve found some places too polluted, I also didn’t find people that kind as well. Then I came down south. And I am in the state of Kerala. I absolutely wish I was here for longer. This place is amazing,” shared @jacksploresKerala was described as being clean, green, and highly attractive because of its hills, beaches, sun, and rich natural environment. He also expressed satisfaction regarding the conservation efforts by Indians towards their natural environment. Most notably, he said his view of India had undergone a complete “180-degree” shift and that he now loved the country and planned to return. This particular narrative has garnered a lot of attention in the digital realm because it captures the common error committed by numerous tourists when traveling through countries that have much to offer beyond one route.

Taj Mahal in Agra
India’s Golden Triangle continues to be one of the best-loved travel destinations all across the globe. Tourists have been treated to the majestic monuments like the Taj Mahal as well as the historic sites located in Jaipur and Delhi. The Golden Triangle, no doubt, serves as a wonderful starting point for anyone wishing to explore India for the first time. The circuit is quite an adventure in itself as travelers face a fast-paced and bustling environment. Sometimes too fast, and always too crowded. Kerala, on the other hand, offers a completely different India. From its picturesque backwaters to its pristine beaches, breathtaking hill stations, lush forests and overall leisurely way of life, this place has always drawn visitors looking to experience some restorative travel. What sets this case apart from an ordinary travel review is the humility behind it. Instead of being persistent on his first impressions, the traveler admitted to being hasty in making them. In the age of social media, people tend to get rewarded for bold and immediate opinions, and changing your view publicly is quite rare. This story also highlights a more general idea about travels. India cannot be judged by a mere schedule, especially the one involving some big cities only. India is so diverse that its languages, cuisine, nature, weather, traditions, pace and everything else vary – and fast. What you see during a busy week exploring some crowded centers may be very different from what you feel if you spend your time in some peaceful places. Both versions will be true but will hardly be sufficient separately.Perhaps that is why this case got such resonance among many viewers. It is not just about loving Kerala. It is about the idea that traveling is mostly meaningful when you question yourself. At times, the destination remains the same. The traveler changes.
