For the upcoming offseason, Giannis Antetokounmpo continues to be a major target for competing clubs, especially a rising Western Conference squad. Giannis Antetokounmpo would be the focal point of the Trail Blazers’ offseason strategy against the Bucks, according to Bill Oram of The Oregonian. However, Portland is leaving its options open and is anticipated to consider other prominent candidates. Over the years, the Milwaukee Bucks made every effort to placate Giannis Antetokounmpo, including dealing for Damian Lillard, a co-star he approved of. Dame is back in Portland after the pairing failed in Milwaukee. However, according to a recent story from Oregon Live’s Bill Oram, the two might get back together.

Portland Trail Blazers eye Giannis Antetokounmpo reunion plan amid Milwaukee Bucks’ struggles

Giannis Antetokounmpo, the star forward for the Milwaukee Bucks, is still a top target for competing clubs going into the offseason, and at least one up-and-coming Western Conference contender has expressed serious interest. The Blazers anticipate making a Giannis-focused offseason pitch to the Milwaukee Bucks, according to Bill Oram of The Oregonian. The team is still open to other well-known candidates, though. He said:“Having Lillard back, especially on a bargain $14 million contract, makes the Blazers better on the court, but it also gives the front office greater urgency to go all in and chase other stars. The Blazers are prepared to make a pitch for Giannis Antetokounmpo as long as he is willing to sign an extension but are not likely to limit their options to Lillard’s former Milwaukee teammate.” In 2023, Giannis agreed to a $186 million, three-year contract deal that included a player option for the 2027–2028 campaign. Giannis spent two seasons with Lillard, who hasn’t played for the Blazers since injuring his left Achilles tendon during the 2024 NBA playoffs with the Bucks. Both seasons ended in the first round of the playoffs. Giannis, Lillard, and possibly Jrue Holiday would be reunited in Portland if the Blazers succeed. The Bucks won the NBA championship in 2021 thanks to Giannis and Holiday, the former two-time MVP’s only championship to date. Over the previous two seasons, the Blazers have developed a solid youthful core. The squad is currently facing the No. 2 seed San Antonio Spurs, led by Deni Avdija and Scoot Henderson, in the opening round of the playoffs. Since the beginning of the season, Giannis has been involved in trade negotiations. The Bucks’ struggles for most of the season, which ended with just 32 victories and the 11th seed in the Eastern Conference, served as more fuel.
