Tirupati: Dr. Abhijat Chandrakant Sheth, Chairman of National Medical Commission (NMC) of India, has praised the TTD’s Sri Venkateswara Institute of Medical Sciences (SVIMS University) for extending its services to the public as a major institution in reaching out healthcare delivery, besides offering pioneering medical education and research.Taking part as the chief guest at the 14th convocation of SVIMS University here on Friday, he appreciated the graduating medical students walking out of the portals of the institution for realizing their dreams and called it a ‘crucial milestone’ in their lives.Dr. Sheth advised the medical students to leave no opportunity to reach out to the society and extend the best possible service to the poor.TTD Executive Officer M. Ravichandra recalled the institution’s birth way back in 1993 in the form of an idea that appeared in the mind of the then Chief Minister Late NT. Rama Rao to provide the best possible health service to the common man.“Today, SVIMS continues to be the best in class, having been accorded suitable accreditations by NABH, NABL and Nursing Excellence”, he added.Apart from the quality treatment, SVIMS Director and Vice-Chancellor Dr. RV Kumar pointed to the hospital’s location at the foot of Tirumala hills, which offered mental strength, solace and comfort to the hundreds of patients admitted here everyday. He thanked the TTD management for sanctioning an additional Rs.60 crore to the hospital.About 548 students received their degrees at the 14th convocation of SVIMS held in Tirupati on Friday. Sixteen meritorious students were also presented with gold medals at the event.The dignitaries included NTR University of Health Sciences Vice-Chancellor Dr. P. Chandrasekhar, SVIMS governing council member Dr. N. Sadashiva Rao also spoke.
