High turnout points to change in Bengal and TN: Sitharaman

Mumbai: FM Nirmala Sitharaman Saturday said high voter turnout in West Bengal and Tamil Nadu points to possible anti-incumbency and political change, while describing defections to BJP to the party’s governance and leadership appeal.The Union finance minister linked elevated voter participation to dissatisfaction with incumbent govts, saying that “the normal psephologist analysis would say when there is strong anti-incumbency… that’s when there is a voter turnout of this kind,” adding that “there will be a change going by this voter turnout…”On leaders from other parties joining BJP, she said parties attract entrants when they “run a responsive govt” and are “absolutely fair in dealing with every section of society.”Sitharaman also pointed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s record, saying his “integrity” and “governance capability” continue to draw people to the party.
