'Iron Maiden: Burning Ambition' trailer reveals the band's five-decade legacy

‘Iron Maiden: Burning Ambition’ will arrive in cinemas in India on May 15, 2026, bringing the story of the legendary heavy metal band to the big screen. Directed by Malcolm Venville, the documentary looks at Iron Maiden’s rise from East London pubs to global stadiums, while focusing on the fans who helped turn the band into a worldwide music force across five decades.

According to Universal Pictures India, distributed by Warner Bros. Discovery, ‘Iron Maiden: Burning Ambition’ celebrates one of the most influential bands in music history. The film is directed by Venville, known for ‘And We Go Green’ and the historical series ‘Grant’ and ‘Churchill at War.’Dom Freeman, who produced acclaimed projects including ‘Depeche Mode: Spirit in the Forest,’ serves as producer. The documentary features interviews with the band and contributors from music and culture, including Javier Bardem, Lars Ulrich, and Chuck D.

‘Iron Maiden: Burning Ambition’ explores fan culture

The film traces Iron Maiden’s journey across 50 years, from small pubs in East London to some of the biggest stages in the world. The band has sold more than 100 million albums worldwide and helped shape heavy metal for generations.The documentary uses official archives, personal stories from past and present band members, and new animated sequences featuring the band’s mascot, Eddie. It also highlights Iron Maiden’s deep bond with fans across countries and cultures.Speaking about the film, Venville said, “The journey to make Iron Maiden: Burning Ambition began not with the band, but with the fans.”He added, “What inspired me most about Iron Maiden was their absolute independence. From the beginning, they wrote and produced their music according to their instincts. They never softened their sound or reshaped themselves to suit the music industry.”Venville also said the band stayed firm during changing music trends. “While many metal bands changed their image during the hair-metal MTV era, Maiden simply carried on, unmoved by the moral panic, often called the ‘Satanic panic,’ that surrounded their album artwork.”He said their songs drew from history, literature, war, mythology, and philosophy. The film presents Iron Maiden as a band built on endurance, identity, and a shared culture with millions of listeners.
