Ramgarh: Patratu Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited (PVUNL) in Patratu of Ramgarh is all set for full-load trial operation of Unit 2 with established capacity of 800 MW by the end of May 2026, six months after Unit 1 of the same capacity was commissioned on Nov 5, 2025.A joint venture of National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) with Jharkhand Bijali Vitran Nigam Limited (JBVNL) of Jharkhand govt is setting up a supercritical power project with established capacity of 4,000 MW in two phases. In Phase 1, 3×800 MW capacity and in Phase 2, 2×800 MW are planned to be set up.Ziaur Rehman, head of the PVUNL human resources, said that Unit 1 of Phase 1 with established capacity of 800 MW was commissioned six months ago and has been operational, from which Jharkhand has been getting 85% power from Unit 1, which has been generating nearly 80% of installed capacity of 800 MW, and Unit 2 of the same established capacity is almost ready for full-load trial operation.Officials said the progress of Unit 2 marks another step in the expansion of the Patratu project, which is expected to strengthen power availability in Jharkhand and support rising demand in the state. The company is advancing work under Phase 1 while preparing the groundwork for later units under the larger expansion plan.
