In 2026, the candidates include Subhash Chandra Roy of the Trinamool Congress (TMC), Deepak Barman of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and Akshoy Kumar Barman of the Congress.In the 2021 West Bengal Assembly elections, the constituency was won by Dipak Barman of the BJP, who defeated his nearest rival from the TMC by a margin of approximately 16,000 votes. The victory was seen as part of the BJP’s strong performance in several north Bengal constituencies during that election cycle.The constituency has a largely rural character, with agriculture, tea garden employment, and small-scale trade forming the backbone of the local economy. Agricultural challenges remain a primary concern, with farmers frequently raising demands related to irrigation facilities, fair crop prices, and protection from floods. Tea garden workers highlight issues such as wage stability, job security, housing, and access to healthcare.The constituency went to polls on April 23, as part of Phase 1. Alipurduar district recorded a voter turnout of 93.2%.
