AMRITSAR: Taranjit Singh Sandhu, Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, commended an initiative aimed at making the holy city of Amritsar a global medical hub providing high-end healthcare services to the people of Punjab and beyond. Sandhu, who contested the last Lok Sabha elections from Amritsar, has been a strong advocate of strengthening healthcare infrastructure in the city. A former Indian ambassador and a 1988-batch Indian Foreign Service officer, Sandhu was in Amritsar to inaugurate an advanced robotic system — a soft tissue surgical robot. Sandhu is also the grandson of Teja Singh Samundari, after whom the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee has named the Teja Singh Samundari Hall, a venue for significant meetings and gatherings. The advanced robotic platform was launched by Amandeep Hospitals. In his address, Dr Avtar Singh, Director of Amandeep Hospital, said that the system enables surgeons to perform complex procedures with magnified 3D HD vision, tremor-free precision, and minimally invasive techniques, ensuring reduced pain, lower blood loss, and faster recovery. “Our goal is to provide access to the most advanced surgical care available globally and bring it to the holy city of Amritsar,” said Avtar.
