Gurgaon: A 42-year-old Bank of America employee was shot at by an unidentified man outside his home in Laxman Vihar on Wednesday evening. While the bullet missed him, gunpowder from the shot burnt one of his eyes, police said.Rajat Rastogi had just returned from work and stepped out of his car outside his house on street number 4 around 6 pm when the attacker, who appeared to have been waiting for him, approached from behind on foot and fired. As the bullet struck a nearby wall, the shooter abandoned the weapon, a country-made pistol, at the spot and fled.Residents heard Rastogi’s screams and alerted the police control room. Personnel from Sector 9-A police station, Sector 4 police post and local crime branch teams rushed to the spot. Rastogi was taken to Kalyani Hospital in Sector 14 and later referred to the civil hospital, where he is undergoing treatment.CCTV footage near the scene captured a well-built man in a white printed T-shirt, believed to be the suspect. Police have also recovered the pistol.Rastogi told police he has no known enemies. His cousin Deepak said neither Rajat nor his wife, who works with TCS, had any disputes with anyone. “We are all shocked,” he said.Investigators, however, believe the attack was pre-mediated. “It does not appear to be a case of robbery. Prima facie, the shooter had a personal grudge. The motive and the source of the weapon will be established once he is arrested,” a senior officer said.Police are questioning family members and neighbours. A case under the Arms Act is likely to be registered. Sub-inspector Narvir, in-charge of Sector 4 police post, confirmed the bullet hit the wall and that only one round was fired.
