Border village Jadung to get 6 homestays by Aug

Uttarkashi: : Six homestays being built in border village Jadung under Centre’s Vibrant Villages Program are expected to be ready by Aug, officials said on Tuesday, as construction had reached the final stage. The homestays are being developed by renovating houses that existed before the 1962 India-China war. Jadung was evacuated during the war, and the government was now working to resettle the village and promote tourism.“The total cost of the six homestays in the first phase is Rs 3.65 crore,” said Sachin Rawat, junior engineer, Garhwal Mandal Vikas Nigam. Each homestay would have two floors, with the owner living on the ground floor and rooms for tourists on the first floor. In the second phase, work had begun on eight more homestays at a cost of Rs 4.90 crore. Rawat said excavation was underway and would take time. Around 40 laborers were working on the first phase and 20 on the second, with temporary tin sheds set up in Jadung for them.Officials said the district administration had sought permission from Center to allow inner line permits for operating the homestays. At present, visitors needed permission from the SDM office to enter the area, and overnight stay was not allowed.
