Gurgaon: The town and country planning department has launched a crackdown on unauthorized banquet halls, marriage venues and hotels across the district, identifying 13 establishments for violating land-use norms. It also demolished a hotel — M/s Orange Hotels & Resorts — in Sidhrawali recently.It comes amid increasing pressure on authorities to regulate unauthorized constructions in the city’s rapidly expanding outskirts. Residents have complained about traffic congestion, noise pollution and safety hazards linked to such unregulated venues.The banquet halls and marriage venues are in villages like Lohaka, Pahari, Gadaipur, Husainika, Khalilpur, Nanu Kalan, Mahenderwara, Kherla and Jatola. Most of these establishments have been served notices, directing them to cease operations or comply with regulatory norms. Officials said that these units have been operating commercially on land not approved for such purposes.Among those flagged are M/s Thakran Farms in Lohaka, along with multiple marriage venues operating under names like Nikhil Vatika (Pahari), Deep Garden (Gadaipur), Pradeep (Hussainika) and Rao Amilal (Khalilpur). Similar violations have been noted in Nanu Kalan and Mahenderwara, where operators including Sh. Krishan, Lakshmi and Amrit Vella have been served notices.Officials said illegal commercialization in rural and semi-urban belts has been a growing concern, particularly with the proliferation of banquet facilities catering to the region’s booming wedding industry. District town planner (enforcement) Amit Madholia said, “These establishments violate zoning laws and strain local infrastructure such as roads, water supply and sanitation.”In Jatola village, two marriage venues operated by a firm named Shri Ram and Narayan have also come under scrutiny, and they have been given notices. Hotel Tanishk in Abhepur has been flagged for similar violations.Sources in the department said inspections are ongoing and more properties could be added to the list in the coming weeks.The department has urged property owners to obtain necessary approvals and adhere to land-use policies to avoid penal action. Further enforcement drives are expected as part of a broader effort to bring illegal commercial activities under control in the district.
