Jharkhand Doubles Overseas Scholarships for Tribal, Backward, Minority Students: Apply Now!

Ranchi: To boost education opportunities abroad for tribal, backward class and minority students, the state government has doubled the number of seats for the Marang Gomke Jaipal Singh Munda Overseas Scholarship scheme for 2026-27.Tribal welfare commissioner Kuldeep Chaudhary said, “The number of seats has been doubled from 25 to 50. Additionally, the number of academic disciplines in which students can pursue their courses has been expanded from 31 to 39.”The SC, ST, minority and backward class welfare department has notified that the application process will commence on May 14 and will end on June 20.For the current cycle, 50 students will be selected for one-year postgraduate courses, encompassing MA, MRes, MPhil and MBA programs at designated institutions across Great Britain and Northern Ireland. There are 20 seats for scheduled tribes, 10 for scheduled castes, 14 for backward classes and 6 for minority communities.Under the scholarship, students will receive financial assistance to attend elite institutes, including the University of Oxford, University of Cambridge, Imperial College London, and London School of Economics (LSE), among others.To be eligible for the 2026-27 session, candidates must possess a minimum of 55% marks or an equivalent grade in their bachelor’s degree. They are also required to have at least two years of teaching or professional work experience in their relevant subject. Applicants must not have exceeded 35 years of age on April 1, 2026.The scheme is reserved for residents who can provide a valid residential certificate. The total annual family income must not exceed Rs 12 lakh. The policy also dictates that only one child per family is eligible for the award, and the benefit can only be received once for any specific course.Interested and eligible candidates can submit their applications online through the www.mgos.jharkhand.gov.in portal. “Applicants are required to upload their offer letters from the respective UK institutions and any relevant documents concerning their teaching or professional work experience during the online process,” Chaudhary said.
