Lucknow airport gets record 16 flight detours in a day amid bad weather

Lucknow: Lucknow’s Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport (CCSIA) handled 16 flight diversions on Monday, the highest number managed by the airport in a single day, after poor weather conditions disrupted flight operations during the early hours.Among the affected flights was IndiGo flight 6E6476 from Delhi to Lucknow, which hovered over Lucknow city airspace for nearly an hour due to bad weather, and was diverted to Bhopal at around 9.30am. The flight later returned to Lucknow in the afternoon, carrying UP deputy chief ministers Brajesh Pathak and Keshav Prasad Maurya.Some other Lucknow-bound flights like 6E179 from Hyderabad and 6E146 from Chandigarh also hovered over UP airspace for nearly an hour due to poor weather and landed only after ATC clearance.Earlier, in the wee hours, the CCSIA handled 15 flights enroute to Delhi from various cities but were diverted to Lucknow airport due to poor weather in the national capital. Out of 15, one flight from Jaipur was diverted to Lucknow at 3.54am due to a medical emergency. One flight QP 1880 from Bengaluru to Gorakhpur was diverted to Lucknow at 5.40pm.

Airport officials confirmed that this surpasses a previous instance in 2025 when around 13 flights were diverted to Lucknow due to adverse weather in Delhi and nearby regions.According to flight diversion and arrival data, flights such as 6E663D, 6E101, 6E2376 and AI1895 from Jaipur, 6E6025 and SG902 Hyderabad, IX1042 Guwahati, 6E839 Bengaluru, AI2986 Mumbai, 6E2409 Coimbatore, 6E6257 Aurangabad, IX 164 Muscat, 6E1082 Phuket, and AI212 Kathmandu landed in Lucknow during the night and early morning hours.Flight 6E409D Lucknow to Delhi, was sent back to Lucknow airport at 4am.
