Bageshwar: The Mohan safari zone in the Corbett Tiger Reserve, located in Tadam village of Talla Salt, has been shut indefinitely after two tiger attacks in a month, officials said on Tuesday. The zone allowed around 20 safari jeeps per day.Mohan range officer Ganga Saran said, “Our focus is on identifying and capturing the animal. Patrolling is under way in nearby villages and experts from Corbett Tiger Reserve have been called in.”The move follows protests by villagers, who said safari activity since its opening in 2024 has disturbed wildlife movement. The latest incident occurred on Sunday evening when 53-year-old Mahipal Singh Mehra was killed by a tiger while cutting grass near his field. Earlier, an elderly villager was also killed in a similar attack in the same area.Social activist Narayan Singh Rawat said rising tourism pressure was pushing animals out of their habitat. “While the government earns revenue from tourism, residents are facing the consequences,” he added.
