NEET UG 2026 exam: The National Testing Agency (NTA) is conducting the NEET UG 2026 examination today, with over 22.79 lakh candidates appearing across India and abroad. The examination is scheduled from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM in pen-and-paper mode, while eligible PwD and PwBD candidates will be allowed compensatory time until 6:00 PM.In an official message issued ahead of the examination, NTA urged candidates to remain calm and focused. The advisory encouraged aspirants to trust their preparation and approach the test with confidence, while also reminding them that the examination is one stage in a longer academic journey.Large-scale arrangements across centersThe examination is being conducted across 551 cities in India and 14 cities abroad, covering more than 5,432 centres. To manage operations, 674 city coordinators and over 6,000 observers have been deployed, along with center superintendents and invigilators at each location.Support from district administrations, police forces and escort teams has been mobilized to ensure secure transportation of confidential materials. In total, more than 2 lakh personnel are involved in conducting the examination.Multi-layered security measures in placeNTA has implemented a comprehensive security framework to maintain fairness. This includes sealed handling of question papers, GPS-enabled transport with police escort, and CCTV surveillance linked to centralized control rooms.Candidates are subject to mandatory frisking using high-sensitivity metal detectors. Aadhaar-based biometric authentication is also being used to prevent impersonation. In cases where biometric verification fails due to technical or physical issues, candidates will be allowed entry after signing an undertaking and completing manual verification.Additionally, over 65 Telegram channels spreading misinformation have been blocked, and complaints have been filed with cyber-crime authorities.Facilities and support for candidatesTo address summer conditions and large turnout, centers have been equipped with power back-up, adequate lighting, fans, drinking water, sanitation and medical support. Candidates are permitted to carry transparent water bottles, while diabetic candidates can bring fruits and sugar tablets as per guidelines.Extra biometric machines and trained staff have been deployed to reduce delays during verification.Reporting schedule and entry rulesCandidates were required to report between 11:00 AM and 1:30 PM. Entry gates close strictly at 1:30 PM, with no exceptions permitted thereafter.Candidates have been instructed to carry a printed admit card, a valid photo ID and two passport-size photographs. Those wearing customary attire or full sleeves have been advised to arrive early for additional screening.Advisory and helpline detailsNTA has cautioned candidates against relying on rumors or unofficial sources and has advised strict adherence to permitted items guidelines. Electronic devices, accessories and food items are prohibited inside examination halls.For assistance, candidates can contact helpline numbers or reach out via email during working hours. For mental health support, Tele-MANAS remains available at 14416, 24×7.
