Gurgaon: Residents of Sushant Lok-1 are struggling with mounting garbage, recurring sewer overflows and damaged roads. Despite assurances from MCG, little has changed on the ground, residents said.Garbage, horticulture waste and construction debris have accumulated across several pockets of the colony. Illegal dumping near houses and green belts has made things much worse.Residents have flagged irregular garbage collection and a lack of monitoring. The issue has also triggered anger over user charges, with many pointing out that MCG has started levying annual garbage collection fees along with property tax, even as households continue to pay private collectors around Rs 120 per month.“There are stray cattle and monkeys that menace the area. Every summer, we face a water crisis, and in the monsoon, our streets are flooded. MCG must hold contractors accountable,” said Vanita Pasricha, a resident of Sushant Lok-1.Deepak Verma, RWA president, said, “We are being told that the sewer upgrade near Paras Hospital has been approved and a tender awarded, but work has not started even after three to four months. Meanwhile, sewer overflow has been a persistent problem for the last 4-5 years. The situation has worsened due to unchecked illegal constructions, which have put additional load on the already outdated infrastructure.”“The same is the case with repairs of internal roads for which tenders and work orders have been issued on paper, but roads, especially at the colony’s entry points, remain in a dilapidated condition,” Verma added. An MCG official said, “We have allotted the work for the recarpeting of roads in Sushant Lok-1. It will be started soon. Similarly, we have also allotted the sewer line upgradation work near Paras Hospital. Meanwhile, a proposal has been prepared for engaging an agency for DPR preparation for Sushant Lok-1.”
