Kolkata Knight Riders captain Ajinkya Rahane won the toss and elected to bowl first against Delhi Capitals in a high-pressure IPL 2026 clash at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Friday. With both teams fighting to stay alive in the playoff race, the contest carries massive significance. Delhi entered the match desperate to end a four-game losing streak at home, while KKR arrived with momentum after winning three consecutive matches.
Rahane admitted the surface in Delhi has been difficult to read this season because of the contrasting nature of pitches at the venue. Referring to the previous high-scoring and low-scoring encounters at the ground, the KKR skipper said chasing would allow his side to better assess conditions before planning the innings.“We’re going to bowl first. The last 3-4 games whatever we saw, it’s been kind of very different games, 264, 160, the low-scoring game against RCB as well, so I thought it’s important to see the wicket,” Rahane said at the toss.KKR retained the same playing XI for the crucial encounter. Rahane also stressed that despite the pressure situation, the mood inside the dressing room remained positive following the recent winning run.Delhi skipper Axar Patel, meanwhile, insisted his side was prepared regardless of the toss result. DC made two changes, bringing in Mukesh Kumar for T Natarajan while Vipraj Nigam also returned to the side.Axar explained that Delhi’s surfaces have offered some assistance to slower bowlers because the ball tends to grip slightly after pitching. As a result, DC opted for a balanced attack featuring three seamers and three spin options.“As much as I have played on Delhi wickets, I feel there isn’t too much spin, but because of a little slowness, the ball comes a bit slower after pitching. So I think spinners get a little help,” Axar said.Teams:Kolkata Knight Riders (Playing XI): Ajinkya Rahane(c), Angkrish Raghuvanshi(w), Cameron Green, Rovman Powell, Manish Pandey, Rinku Singh, Sunil NarineAnukul Roy, Kartik Tyagi, Vaibhav Arora, Varun ChakravarthyDelhi Capitals (Playing XI): Pathum Nissanka, KL Rahul(w), Nitish Rana, Sameer Rizvi, Tristan Stubbs, Axar Patel(c), Ashutosh Sharma, Vipraj Nigam, Mitchell Starc, Lungi Ngidi, Mukesh Kumar
