Anthropic may soon form $1.5 billion AI venture with Wall Street firms

Anthropic is reportedly finalizing a massive $1.5 billion joint venture with some of the biggest names on Wall Street. The deal aims to create a new entity that will help businesses, specifically those owned by private equity firms, learn how to use AI to work faster and save money. Citing people familiar with the matter, The Wall Street Journal reported that the official announcement could come on late Monday (IST). This move signals an escalation in the race to bring AI into the corporate world, where Anthropic currently holds a strong lead. The report claims that the venture is being led by prominent leaders of the financial world, including Anthropic, Blackstone and Hellman & Friedman are expected to lead the investment, each putting in roughly $300 million. Goldman Sachs is set to join with an investment of about $150 million with additional partners including General Atlantic and several other firms to reach the total $1.5 billion commitment.

A new kind of consulting firm

Rather than just selling software, this new company will act as a consulting arm, the report said, adding that it will focus on teaching businesses how to actually weave Anthropic’s AI tools into their day-to-day operations. The primary targets are “portfolio companies”, which are businesses owned by private equity firms. Since these companies are already under pressure to cut costs and improve efficiency, they are seen as the perfect customers for advanced AI tools. Anthropic isn’t the only one eyeing Wall Street. Rival OpenAI has also been in talks to form its own joint venture with private equity firms to spread its technology, the report pointed out. While OpenAI is a household name, Anthropic is widely considered the current leader when it comes to selling AI to businesses. Anthropic’s revenue has recently exploded, largely due to the success of Claude Code, its popular tool for computer programmers.Furthermore, there has been positive reports around the prowess of Anthropic’s Mythos AI model that can find loopholes in software that the companies never knew existed. This $1.5 billion deal comes at a time for Anthropic, which is reportedly considering going public as soon as this year.
