Jaipur: Baba Harishchandra Marg in Chandpole and nearby lanes have remained in disrepair for the past two-and-a-half months, with a dug-up road, open sewer lines and unfinished work triggering frequent minor accidents and raising fears of waterlogging ahead of the monsoon.Residents said the road was earlier usable with only a few potholes, but was dug up without prior notice, making movement difficult. While work on the main stretch has not started, nearby lanes have been quickly rebuilt, raising road levels by about one to one-and-a-half feet and leaving shops and homes at a lower level.Local shopkeeper Anand Solanki said, “We do not understand why the entire road was dug up when only a few potholes needed repair. Now the new road has been raised so much that our shops are at a lower level. If water enters during rains, who will take responsibility?”On the main stretch, residents said accidents have become routine. Satyanarayan Kaushal said, “For the past two and a half months, we have been helping people who fall here. The road is in such bad shape that anyone unfamiliar with it is bound to meet with an accident. We have complained to the MLA, Jaipur Municipal Corporation, JDA and even on 181, but nothing has changed. Two days ago, JDA only put up a ‘work in progress’ board.“Former councilor Arvind Methi said, “There is no proper hearing of public grievances. I have been raising this issue on social media. The MLA Amin Kagzi visited the area and directed JDA to start work within 24 hours, but so far only signboards have been put up.”Residents alleged the road was dug up overnight without planning and blamed delays on poor coordination and contractor negligence, including drainage work that has stalled progress. With the monsoon approaching, they said the raised lane levels and incomplete construction could push rainwater into homes and shops.
