RAIPUR: The Chhattisgarh govt has imposed a three-month curb on leave for more than 5.5 lakh officers and employees, citing the upcoming census exercise and the chief minister’s statewide good governance campaign as key reasons behind the move. In an order issued by the general administration department, the state made it clear that no government employee will be allowed to proceed on leave without prior approval from the competent authority during this period. Any unauthorized absence, the order warned, will be treated as a serious breach of discipline and may even be considered a break in service, inviting disciplinary action, the order stated.
The directive covers all forms of leave, including casual leave and earned leave, and is aimed at ensuring smooth administrative functioning and timely execution of major government programs over the next three months.The order also stated that even in cases of emergency or casual leave, employees must inform their office in advance through phone or digital means. A written confirmation will have to be submitted once they report back to the office.The govt has further said that employees planning to go on long leave must first hand over charge of their work to another officer or staff member before proceeding on leave.All departments, divisional commissioners and district collectors have been directed to ensure strict compliance with the instructions.The decision has been taken by the state govt to keep the official machinery fully available during the census-related work and the CM’s statewide Lok Suraj campaign to connect with the public, both of which are expected to require extensive field-level coordination and monitoring.
