NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court has asked social media platform X, the central government and the Delhi Police to take action over alleged derogatory tweets posted by journalist Rana Ayyub. The court said that tweets on Hindu deities and Vinayak Damodar Savarkar were “derogatory, inflammatory and communal”. It has sought responses from the parties by Friday, April 10. The direction came while hearing a complaint filed by advocate Amita Sachdeva, who alleged that Ayyub’s posts had insulted Hindu deities and spread anti-India sentiment. Sachdeva claimed that in one of the posts, Ayyub made malicious allegations against Savarkar and referred to him as a terrorist sympathizer. The court’s observations came at a preliminary stage, and further proceedings are expected after responses are filed.
