DGP seeks global-standard training, tech-driven policing for UP ATS sleuths

Lucknow: Director General of Police (DGP) Rajeev Krishna on Sunday carried out a comprehensive inspection of the headquarters of the Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS), laying strong emphasis on technological upgradation and advanced commando training to meet emerging security challenges. The DGP underlined that modern terrorism is increasingly technology-driven, requiring real-time intelligence, digital surveillance and rapid-response capabilities. He directed ATS units to adopt cutting-edge tools such as advanced data analytics systems, AI-enabled monitoring and integrated surveillance platforms to track suspicious activities, especially across social media and encrypted communication channels.Officials briefed him on the induction of modern equipment under the direction of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, including upgrades in cyber monitoring infrastructure, digital forensics and intelligence coordination systems.Krishna stressed that seamless coordination between field units and central intelligence agencies must be ensured through secure, technology-driven communication networks.Focusing on capacity building, the DGP called for a structured training ecosystem for ATS commandos. He instructed that regular mock drills simulating real-life terror scenarios — such as hostage situations, urban warfare and IED neutralization — be institutionalized to sharpen response time and tactical precision. He further directed that ATS commandos undergo specialized, high-intensity training modules in collaboration with premier institutions like the National Security Guard (NSG), with a focus on close-quarter battle, counter-insurgency operations and advanced weapon handling.Exposure to national and international best practices, he said, would significantly enhance operational effectiveness.Krishna also reviewed the existing training infrastructure at the ATS headquarters, stressing the need to continuously upgrade facilities to match global standards. He emphasized that a combination of technological superiority and highly trained personnel would be key to tackling evolving terror threats.
