First forecourt rooftop solar unit at CNG stations

New Delhi: Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL) on Monday commissioned India’s first forecourt-area rooftop solar power facility installed at its CNG station in east Delhi’s Ghazipur. The installed capacity of the plant is nearly 32 KWp (kilowatt-peak) and is expected to generate approximately 40,000 units of green electricity annually, or nearly 110 units per day.Based on prevailing electricity tariffs, IGL said the project is expected to save about Rs 4 lakh annually and recover its cost within 5-6 years. It will enable a significant replacement of conventional energy at the CNG station. The initiative is expected to reduce around 45 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions annually.Officials said advanced power optimizers and a net metering system have also been installed at the facility, which will transfer additional energy generated to the grid. “The rooftop solar facility has also been equipped with module-level monitoring systems for real-time performance tracking and enhanced operational safety,” it added. The plant was inaugurated by IGL managing director Kamal Kishore Chatiwal and director (Commercial) Mohit Bhatia.
