Gurgaon: Cracking down on a rowdy wedding procession in Nuh, with youths riding atop moving vehicles, hanging out of windows and blocking NH-919 (Dharuhera-Sohna Road), police named a groom, his father and several others in an FIR and arrested five persons.Police said the wedding party had traveled from Nizampur to Firozpur Namak on April 23. On the return journey, the procession came to a halt in the middle of the highway, affecting traffic movement, even as loud music systems added to disruption.

Taking cognizance of videos, apparently clicked and shared on social media by some passersby, police identified multiple vehicles and their occupants. Five men, who were allegedly at the wheel, including Tasleem from Sunari, Shahrukh from Tain, Rashid from Cheela, and two men identified as Sajid from Bhajalaka and Nizampur, were arrested on Monday and later produced before a local court. Six vehicles, among them a Thar, Audi, Fronx and Verna, were also seized under the Motor Vehicles Act.Police have registered the case at Sadar Taoru station against groom Sohail, a resident of Nizampur village, his father and the others under BNS sections 125 (act endangering human life), 281 (rash driving), 285 (danger or obstruction in public way) and 292 (public nuisance).
Five men allegedly driving vehicles in the baraat were arrested on Monday.
“We have identified the vehicles and individuals involved. Further action will be taken as per legal procedure,” a senior officer said, adding that celebrating was not a crime but must not cause inconvenience to other commuters.The action follows a warning issued earlier this month against hooliganism during wedding processions in the district, with police cautioning that sitting on rooftops, performing stunts, bursting firecrackers or disturbing public peace would invite direct legal action.

Under BNS Section 125, the maximum punishment is three years’ imprisonment, a fine of up to Rs 10,000, or both, if the act causes grievous hurt. Section 281 carries up to six months’ imprisonment, a fine, or both. Sections 285 and 292 are punishable with fines of up to Rs 5,000 and Rs 1,000, respectively. All four offenses are bailable.Police spokesperson ASI Krishna said the district police chief had issued strict instructions to curb stunt driving and traffic violations during wedding processions. “Such acts are being monitored through social media and other means,” he said, urging people to celebrate responsibly.
