Choosing a child’s name is one of the first and most important decisions parents make. Keeping this in mind, the education department of Rajasthan has launched a new program that would encourage parents to choose names which reflect positive values. Recently, the education minister of Rajasthan, Madan Dilawar, has announced the launch of “Sarthak Naam Abhiyan,” targeting all students enrolled in state-run schools in Rajasthan. The campaign is designed to support parents, especially in rural areas, where children are sometimes given names that may not have clear meanings or could lead to discomfort or embarrassment later in life. It would encourage the school authority to talk to parents in a diplomatic way and give them better suggestions for naming their kids.Names that are not allowed Names are something that not only stick with a child for life but also give them confidence in one way or another. The minister emphasized that parents should be mindful when choosing names for their children. He mentioned that names like Kachumbar or Dhapa should not be given to children.“Under this campaign, for students whose names do not have any meaning, such as Kachumbar or Dhapa, and are chosen in some rural areas, discussions will be held with their parents to help assign them more meaningful names,” said Dilawar. The government officials will recommend more appropriate and significant names from an array of 2,000 to 3,000 carefully selected names. This way, parents will get the opportunity to give their children the names that will make them feel confident and proud instead of being conscious and embarrassed about them.As mentioned in the Times of India, the minister further pointed out that, in some rural regions, people might pick up names without knowing their significance and implications properly. It will encourage parents by holding events to honor the performances of students in the board exams in 2026 at both local and national levels. This could serve as an inspiration to parents, motivating them to ensure that their children are receiving a proper education.Furthermore, annual alumni meets in government schools will be held. The idea behind such an effort is to bring together former students and invite their participation in the development of schools. It makes parents feel safe that schools are more than institutions they are the pillars of the future success of their children. In summary, ‘Sarthak Naam Abhiyan’ is about much more than name change; it is also aimed at encouraging parents to think of how their actions will affect the lives of their children. It helps one realize that even small choices that a parent makes may affect the way their kids develop into adults.
