Israel sent Iron Dome system to UAE to defend against attacks by Iran, confirms top US diplomat
Israel has reportedly deployed its Iron Dome air defense system to protect the UAE, a significant development following recent Iranian drone and missile attacks on the Gulf nation. This cooperation, confirmed by US Ambassador Mike Huckabee, highlights deepening ties between the two Abraham Accord signatories. The UAE has faced extensive aerial assaults, prompting this strategic military assistance.

The United Arab Emirates, the country which bore the brunt of Iran’s drone and missile attack on its neighbours, is now under the protection of Israel’s Iron Dome air defense system. This news was confirmed by Mike Huckabee, the US Ambassador to Israel. “I’d like to say a word of appreciation for United Arab Emirates, the first Abraham accord member, just look at the benefits. Israel just sent them Iron Dome batteries and personnel to help operate them,” Huckabee said at an event in Tel Aviv. The two nations normalized relations with the signing of the Abraham Accord in 2020. the two countries are also members of a strategic partnership called the I2U2 along with India and the US. Israel and the UAE are also part of the India–Middle East–Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC) corridor. The UAE has been the focal point of Iranian missile and drone attacks, the nation has seen more weapons launched at it than even Israel. According to the latest bulletin issued by the Emirati Ministry of Defence, 551 ballistic missiles, 29 cruise missiles and 2,263 drones launched by Iran have been intercepted. Both countries are mum over the deployment of the Iron Dome battery. The Israelis do not wish to highlight the cooperation due to domestic political compulsions that could arise over transferring a critical system at a time when Israel was under attack, according to the Times of Israel. Both UAE and Israel have coordinated with each over the targeting of short range ballistic missile launchers located in Southern Iran, as per the same report. The UAE is also said to have been involved in more kinetic action against Iran, making the country the third active hostile party to the conflict after Israel and the United States. UAE is said to have targeted an oil refinery located on the Iranian island of Lavan. The attack took place in early April, just before the ceasefire kicked in, the US is said to have welcomed these attacks. The United Arab Emirates, the country which bore the brunt of Iran’s drone and missile attack on its neighbours, is now under the protection of Israel’s Iron Dome air defense system.
