KODAGU/MYSURU: A tourist from the United States was allegedly raped at a homestay in Kodagu district, police said on Wednesday. According to police, the incident was reported under the limits of Kutta Police Station. Following the complaint, Kodagu police launched an investigation and detained two suspects, who were later arrested.Police said the woman has alleged that she was given a drink laced with intoxicants, after which she was sexually assaulted. The ordeal was further aggravated by the actions of the homestay owner, who is accused of disconnecting the victim’s Wi-Fi access for days, allegedly preventing her from contacting authorities or seeking help. The victim is currently undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Mysuru. Police said the case is under investigation and further details are being ascertained. The incident has sparked strong reactions, with Karnataka MLC CT Ravi condemning the crime. In a post on social media, he said the assault was “deeply shameful and unacceptable” and went against India’s ethos of Atithi Devo Bhava. “This is not just a crime against an individual, but a blot on our nation’s image and values,” he said, urging the state government to ensure swift and stringent action. He also called on chief minister Siddaramaiah to order a thorough investigation and ensure justice for the victim.
