Bhagalpur: : In a bid to promote digital literacy, the district education department has initiated steps to connect schoolgirls of 25 Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas (KGBVs) in Bhagalpur with digital learning through Information and Communication Technology (ICT) laboratories.Officials said the primary objective of the initiative is to bridge the gap between urban and rural students by providing KGBV girls—most of whom come from underprivileged and rural backgrounds—access to computers, internet and smart classrooms. The ICT lab project in Bihar is an ambitious initiative of the government to modernize education in government schools under the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) of the Bihar Education Project Council (BEPC). The scheme aims to equip students with digital literacy and technical skills through dedicated computer labs and smart classes.District program officer (DPO), Establishment (Education), Babita Kumari, said on Friday that the initiative seeks to connect students to the digital world and equip them with basic computer knowledge so they do not lag behind in higher studies or competitive environments. She added that ICT labs will enable both students and teachers to access digital resources, improve teaching methods and prepare learners for technology-driven careers. Calling it a major push towards digital education for girls, she said ICT labs have been set up in nearly all KGBVs, and preparations to begin computer education have been expedited.A structured timetable for computer classes is being finalized, and training will be imparted accordingly. Monthly assessments will also be conducted to track learning outcomes, and high-performing students will be rewarded as an incentive.Chairing a review meeting on the progress of ICT labs and smart classes, Kumari said modalities for imparting computer training and basic technical skills to students have been outlined. The meeting was attended by district component in charge (KGBV) Mukesh Kumar, MIS in charge Shiv Kumar, ICT instructors and representatives from all KGBVs.Mukesh Kumar said the initiative aims to provide modern technical education, including computer learning and smart classes, to rural girls enrolled in KGBVs, most of whom belong to underprivileged sections of society.
