Motherhood comes in many forms, and for actor Kubbra Sait, it is beautifully defined by the unconditional bond she shares with her two beloved cats, Shifu and Sexyy Sait. On the occasion of Mother’s Day, the ‘Sacred Games’ actor spoke candidly about her life as a pet parent, the comfort her cats bring her, and why she feels completely fulfilled in her current journey.Kubbra spoke lovingly about Shifu, her 13-year-old Persian cat, and Sexyy Sait, her three-year-old Siamese companion. For the actor, these cats are far more than pets. They are family. Describing her connection with them, Kubbra shared with Mid-Day, “Shifu, my thirteen-year-old white Persian with the most piercing blue eyes you’ve ever seen, didn’t come into my life so I could have a pet. He came, so now I have a child. PERIOD.”She further revealed how deeply she connects with the idea of caring for her cats. Recalling a conversation someone once had with her, she shared, “Someone once told me quite seriously, quite spiritually, that perhaps my purpose on this earth is to keep my cat alive. And I thought about it, and I thought, ‘Yeah. That is it! That’s all I have to do.’ That’s what I’m doing.”
Kubbra Sait’s cats have replaced loneliness with warmth
The actor admitted that one of the greatest joys of being a pet mom is never having to return to an empty home. Kubbra reflected on her earlier years living alone in Dubai and how different life feels now. “You know that specific loneliness of unlocking your front door and being met with silence? I don’t know that anymore,” she said.Speaking about the emotional comfort her cats provide, Kubbra added, “Now, my babies are always at the door. Always. You walk in, and the house just exhales. It’s alive.” For her, the biggest gift of being a pet parent is companionship. “I think that’s the most underrated gift of being a pet parent: you are never, ever truly alone,” she expressed. When asked how parenting pets differs from raising children, Kubbra answered with her signature wit and honesty. “My cats don’t need school fees. They don’t need karate classes or career counseling or a gap year in Europe. And that’s already a significant advantage,” she joked. The actor further explained that despite the differences, caring for pets still demands patience, responsibility, and emotional investment. “I’m raising two highly intelligent, deeply opinionated beings who have never once asked me to fund their lifestyle choices,” she added humorously.Kubbra also spoke about how the emotional connection with pets can feel just as intense as caring for a human baby. “Both are babies. Both need you. Both will, at some point, vomit on something you love dearly,” she said with a laugh. However, the actor clarified that she does not compare pet parenting with raising children. Instead, she focused on the emotional side of caregiving. “I know what it is to love something so much that the pain is shared. To lose sleep over their well-being. To feel your whole nervous system recalibrate the second they seem off,” she shared. And despite the chaos, Kubbra believes every difficult moment becomes worth it. “But looking at them after a bath is worth it!” she added.
Kubbra Sait on motherhood and choosing herself
During the conversation, Kubbra also honestly addressed whether being a pet mom had inspired her to become a mother to a human child. Her answer was straightforward. The actor explained that she is currently focused on understanding herself and embracing her own journey. “I’m still very much a child myself. I’m in the middle of discovering who that child is, what she wants, and what makes her laugh. It’s a full-time project,” she said. Kubbra made it clear that her choice comes from clarity, not sadness or pressure. “There is nothing sad in this answer. No loss to mourn, no clock I’m racing against,” she shared. Ending on an emotional note, Kubbra concluded, “There is just a woman who knows herself well enough to know what her life is for. And right now, it’s for Shifu. It’s for Sexyy. It’s for me.”
