Kumarganj election result 2026: TMC's Toraf Hossain Mandal defeats BJP's Subhendu Sarkar by 6,685 votesKumarganj is a general (unreserved) constituency in Dakshin Dinajpur district of West Bengal, forming part of the Balurghat parliamentary seat. In 2026, the candidates include Toraf Hossain Mandal of the Trinamool Congress (TMC), Subhendu Sarkar of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and Gulam Martuja Mandal of the Congress.In the 2021 West Bengal Assembly elections, Kumarganj had 2,03,986 registered electors, of whom 1,70,928 valid votes were cast. Toraf Hossain Mandal of the TMC won the election with 89,763 votes, defeating BJP candidate Manas Sarkar, who finished second with 60,396 votes, by a commanding margin of 29,367 votes. Mandal had also won the seat in 2016, although that earlier victory over the Communist Party of India (Marxist) was by a far narrower margin of 3,496 votes.The constituency is predominantly rural, with agriculture and small-scale trade forming the backbone of local livelihoods. Key concerns include agricultural support, irrigation infrastructure, flood protection, rural road development, and reliable electricity supply for both farming communities and small businesses.The constituency went to polls on April 23, as part of Phase 1. Dakshin Dinajpur district recorded a voter turnout of 95.44%.
