MSP on milk, cane payment within 24 hrs on SP's poll agenda for farmers

Lucknow: Minimum Support Price (MSP) for milk and payment to sugarcane growers within 24 hours of their crop being purchased at sugar mills figure on top of Samajwadi Party’s 2027 poll agenda for farmers.The party is also deliberating on setting up of a farmers’ commission to look into their needs and suggest a framework where the demands of the agriculturists can be scrutinized, legally vetted and disposed of in a time-bound manner. These were three major decisions that were taken by the SP national president Akhilesh Yadav after presiding over the Vision India conclave in Ghaziabad on Saturday.The SP chief announced that the issues would figure in the party’s manifesto for farmers for the 2027 polls. This will be in addition to the promise of free electricity for irrigation and a flat-rate charge for power consumption after allowing 300 units of free power to every connection.These were some of the farmer-related decisions that the party is discussing to announce in the near future, said SP officials privy to the discussions that the party leadership had with the farmers and other stakeholders in the agriculture sector at Vision India Conclave.The event was attended by farmers and other stakeholders who discussed some of the most pressing issues that the sector was faced with. Former UP CM Akhilesh Yadav, who was to attend the event, presided over the conclave, connecting from the party office in Lucknow after he was unable to fly down to Ghaziabad owing to unavoidable reasons.In Lucknow, Akhilesh was joined by former cabinet minister and the party’s national secretary Rajendra Chaudhary, retired IAS officer and former UP chief secretary Alok Ranjan, and senior party functionary Prof Sudhir Panwar.‘BJP’s lies exposed before Karanda residents’Questioning the delay in lodging of FIR and the specifics of the police complaint being altered before registering the case in connection with the death of a girl from the Vishwakarma community in Karanda village of Ghazipur district, Samajwadi Party national president Akhilesh Yadav on Sunday said that BJP’s lies were exposed.“The inordinate delay in registration of the FIR. Changes made in the language of the application. Questions are being raised on the post-mortem findings. The people of Karanda in Ghazipur know everything about the case. People are seeing through the claims of the administration. BJP’s lies were exposed before the people of Karanda,” Akhilesh said in a statement.
