Ghaziabad: : Residents in Shalimar Garden have raised growing concerns over dirty drains, poor sanitation, delays in clearing excavated waste and indiscriminate dumping of garbage. They have written to the chief health officer of GMC, seeking urgent action.In the letter, resident Pradeep Gupta urged officials to conduct a comprehensive cleaning of the drains and sewers. Highlighting the ongoing challenges faced by the residents, Gupta said, “Several major drains and internal sewers are clogged with filth, silt and debris. While the municipal corporation has initiated a special drive to clean drains, its slow pace and shoddy, incomplete job have led to frustration among the residents of the area.“Gupta is the founding member of the public welfare committee Shalimar Garden Jan Kalyan Samiti (SGJKS).
At many spots, dirty water in these drains stinks up the area.
Key issues highlighted by residents included inadequate cleaning of drains, with many receiving only superficial attention, delay in the removal of excavated waste leading to the material sliding back into the drains, insufficient and irregular cleaning of drains in internal lanes and bylanes, and obstruction of drainage systems caused by encroachments and the indiscriminate dumping of waste.Gupta’s letter calls for immediate action to ensure that all major and minor drains in Shalimar Garden are thoroughly cleaned. He also emphasized the need for regular monitoring and accountability among the officials responsible for these operations.“The residents are particularly concerned about the potential for severe waterlogging during the rains,” Gupta noted. “We urge the municipal corporation to prioritize this issue to ensure the safety and comfort of our community.”Residents also urged officials to identify and prioritize vulnerable areas, and collaborate with RWAs to gather feedback on ongoing efforts. “Timely intervention will significantly alleviate the risk of waterlogging during the monsoon season, providing much-needed relief to residents of the area,” said Anurag Singh, another resident of Shalimar Garden.When contacted, GMC officials said that they were taking the necessary steps to address the issue.
