Naomi Osaka went from one of fashion’s biggest nights to a frustrating travel surprise within just a few days. After making headlines at the 2026 Met Gala in New York, the Japanese tennis star arrived in Rome for the Italian Open and revealed that her bonnet had disappeared from the player laundry. Osaka shared the update herself on Threads late Wednesday night, joking about the situation while also clearly disappointed.“Put my bonnet in the player laundry at Rome and it’s gone now 🥲 rip to my hair,” Naomi Osaka wrote on Threads. The post quickly caught attention online, with fans reacting in a humorous way. Some joked that the missing bonnet could soon appear on eBay because of Osaka’s global popularity. Others sympathized with the former World No. 1, especially after her long travel schedule from New York to Italy right after the Met Gala. There had already been questions from tennis fans about how quickly Osaka would travel to Rome after attending one of fashion’s biggest celebrity events. However, Hard Court founder and writer Jessica Schiffer explained on social media that many celebrities attend the Met Gala for only a few hours before immediately flying out, often using private jets for overnight travel. Osaka appeared to follow a similar schedule before reaching the Italian Open.

Before the travel mishap in Rome, Naomi Osaka became one of the standout names at the 2026 Met Gala. The four-time Grand Slam champion wore a custom white feathered outfit designed by Robert Wun, along with a matching headpiece created by Avon Golding Millinery in London. Speaking to Vogue during the event, Osaka explained why the night meant so much to her.“Obviously, a lot of people know me for my tennis outfits, and the Met Gala is the Grand Slam of fashion,” Naomi Osaka said. “To have the opportunity to be here and express my style on this stage is something that’s really cool for me,” she added.Later during her appearance, Osaka removed the white outer layer and revealed a sparkling red dress covered with Swarovski crystals. She completed the look with red gloves and jewelry before posting photos on Instagram with the caption, “𝐑𝐄𝐃 𝐀𝐋𝐋 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐖𝐀𝐘 𝐃𝐎𝐖𝐍.”This was not Osaka’s first collaboration with designer Robert Wun. Earlier this year at the Australian Open, she also wore a custom Nike x Robert Wun tennis outfit that included one of the designer’s signature hats and umbrellas. While players like Iga Świętek and Alexandra Eala had already arrived in Rome earlier to begin preparations for the WTA 1000 tournament, Osaka reached Italy later because of her Met Gala commitments. The Japanese star received a first-round bye and is scheduled to face Eva Lys in the second round of the Italian Open on Friday.
