NFL Trade Rumors: Cleveland Browns and Dallas Cowboys linked to bold first-round blockbuster swap
The Cleveland Browns are rumored to explore a blockbuster first-round trade with the Dallas Cowboys, potentially turning one top pick into three. Draft analyst Mel Kiper Jr. suggests Cleveland could address multiple needs, including offense and secondary depth. GM Andrew Berry remains flexible, emphasizing asset maximization as the Browns weigh several draft scenarios ahead of a pivotal night.

The Cleveland Browns may be setting up one of the most aggressive draft-night plays in recent memory, and it could come at the expense of the Dallas Cowboys. With two first-round picks already in hand, Cleveland has both flexibility and leverage. Now, a bold projection from Mel Kiper Jr. suggests the front office might lean all the way in.That scenario hinges on a swap that would send Cleveland down from No. 6 while stacking even more premium capital. It is not just about moving picks. It’s about reshaping the roster in one night. And if executed, it could quietly redefine how the Browns approach contention in a loaded AFC.

Browns and Cowboys could pull off stunning Round 1 trade that reshapes NFL draft

“Let’s have some fun here. Dallas and Cleveland each have two first-round picks coming into the draft, which gives those front offices some ability to maneuver. With an elite prospect still on the board, I have Cowboys owner Jerry Jones calling up Browns general manager Andrew Berry to try to make something happen,” Kiper said. “In this scenario, Dallas would trade pick Nos. 12 and 20 to Cleveland for Nos. 6 and 39. That means the Browns suddenly have three first-round picks.”If that unfolds, Cleveland could attack multiple weaknesses at once. Offensive tackle Kadyn Proctor would bring protection and long-term stability. Wide receiver Denzel Boston adds a vertical threat. Then comes the curveball. Cornerback Jermod McCoy, a talented but recovering prospect, could round out the trio.“Proctor and Boston would tick the two biggest need boxes, and finding McCoy — one of the top cornerback prospects in the class — at No. 24 would be the cherry on top,” Kiper said. “Of course, McCoy hasn’t played a football game since 2024; he tore his ACL in January 2025 and sat out all of last season. But the tape is really good, and his ball skills (six interceptions in two seasons at Oregon State and Tennessee) are tremendous. Denzel Ward, Tyson Campbell and McCoy would form a solid trio at the position.”General manager Andrew Berry has made it clear the Browns are not locked into one path.“Our mindset going into the draft with our most valuable asset isn’t about, ‘hey, just trade it away.’ It’s maximizing the asset. And that can, at different times, take different forms. It can be selecting a player,” Berry said. “It could be trading it for a veteran; it could be trading it down; it could be trading up. We will continue to work through all those possibilities up until we get on the clock on Thursday night. … We’re working through a number of different scenarios at this point.”Cleveland has pulled off bold moves before. This time, the stakes feel even higher.
