Police held burglary suspects after viral CCTV footage

New Delhi: Three days after CCTV footage of alleged ‘Kaccha Baniyan’ gang members inside a south Delhi home went viral, police on Monday said they have arrested three men following an encounter, in which all suspects were shot in the leg.According to police, the accused were apprehended by the Anti-Auto Theft Squad (AATS) of the south district. The trio is believed to be linked to the burglary reported from Sarvodaya Enclave last week. The incident came to light on Friday, when a PCR call was received around 6 am reporting a break-in at a house in the area. Investigators said the burglars allegedly entered the premises by scaling a balcony with the help of a tree located in the nearby Vijay Mandal Park, suggesting prior reconnaissance. They then cut open the main door using a sharp-edged tool.Police said the accused remained inside the house for nearly an hour and fled with cash and household items. “Rs 27,000 cash, a silver bowl, brass plates and a few household items were believed to be stolen,” said DCP (South) Anant Mittal.CCTV footage from the house later surfaced on social media, showing three masked men dressed in ‘Kaccha Baniyan’, moving across rooms and searching through belongings. Wearing gloves and socks, a known method to avoid leaving fingerprints, the men appeared to be carrying multiple tools. The footage, timestamped around 3.30am, showed them systematically opening doors and rummaging through the house.Police clarified that the residents were not held hostage and the occupants only discovered the theft after waking up.A case has been registered at Malviya Nagar police station.
